Prosecutors have dropped rape and sexual assault charges against Geelong AFL player Tanner Bruhn and his friend Patrick Sinnott, following an incident in February 2023. A suppression order preventing media identification of Bruhn was lifted, allowing the public to learn his involvement. The AFL player missed the entire 2025 season due to the legal proceedings, but Geelong confirmed he will return for pre-season. His legal team described the case as a “horrible stain on the criminal justice system,” and Victoria Police has agreed to cover the men’s legal costs. The AFL Players’ Association criticised the handling of the case, calling the decision to stand Bruhn down “premature and disproportionate.”
