Former Home and Away actor Orpheus Pledger, 32, has been sentenced to up to a year in jail after threatening to kill a woman he had previously attacked. The sentence follows a breach of a community corrections order imposed last November for an earlier violent attack, in which Pledger dragged the woman by her hair and stomped on her head. Judge Michael Tinney described the offences as serious criminal offending against a completely helpless victim and noted that the previous court order had failed to prevent further harm.
The court heard that Pledger continued to use methamphetamine and breached his orders by returning to the victim’s home after threatening her. Despite pleas for leniency, Judge Tinney cancelled the community corrections order, sentencing Pledger to one year in prison with a non-parole period of six months. Any early release will now be determined by the parole board, reflecting the severity of his repeated criminal behaviour and failure to comply with court orders.
